About that ass/back watching.
For myself, this plays absolute no role in gender picking. I don't really think of "ass" watching while playing. I don't play to look at 3D models made out of polygones. It actually never crossed my mind while playing that i look at the backside of a male necro all the time.

I'm with you... just never occured to me that I was watching my character's ass. I was more interested in the great animations of firing arrows (my Monk/Ranger actually shoots like a japanese archer...which is really damn cool and nice attention to detail) and sword strokes. My main character, the Elementalist, seems a bit shortchanged in the animation, the drift up into the hair and hunch over throwing motion... but the spell effects themselves are pretty damn cool!

I'm male. I play male characters. For immersion and personification identification.

well i just choose for purely aesthetic reasons - the armour of almost all of the female chars looks better in my honest opinion. (although, the female mesmer is a bit wierd). I think it also accentuates skill rather than strength for the ranger and warrior classes, as the women do the same damage but have a smaller body size (i also set my body scale to smallest). People have always treated me the same, however it turns out one of my guildmates for the past two weeks has thought im female in real life (going to see how long it takes for them to actually read the clan forum details) :P just relax, its a game, store your items and delete the char if you have problems staring at asses anyway (i'm a face man myself

I picked male because I'm male,playing a female seems awkard but I could understand why someone would do it-the male warrior is to bulky Imo.

My situation is similar to Exion's... I'm male, and I use all male characters... With female characters, it's just akward when some guy comes up and starts trying to "start something" so to speak...

I kinna pick female for "special" chars and male for regular chars. Special might be my first char, favorite profession or something else.

No i took that profession that i wanted and the sex i feel comfortable to play. Then i picked what i think looks ok for the char.
Just because i make a char dosen't mean i look at the char all the time in the way Nainara is meaning.
I make a char to play the game, i don't make a char to give my eyes something to stare at 60+ hours.

Good point. But if you're playing for 60+ hours straight it would be nice to see a character a little attractive, help you keep your focus lol. I have to say it's interesting to see what people think and I'm glad to see people reply and have good things to say and share ideas. I personally like characters that look good because then when I'm playing and I've got mad skill, I not only look good but play good too!!

*On a side note I wouldn't mind seeing a little depth into changing character height, weight. Be interesting to see a Butterbean warrior blocking the path of mobs reaching the mages.

I choose females for the same reason that guy said.

I'd much prefer to look at a nice, curved, attractive rear-end than a blocky, unattractve male one.

Plus the females look a lot better in the long run.

People treat you better.

Easier to find groups (seriously, I'm not kidding).

And you can get good stuff for just playing a female (again not kidding, had it happen).

Too many horny 12 year olds out there willing to give you stuff. Female gender is just the logical choice.

I dunno if it ever occured to anyone, but guild capes effectively obstruct those few triangles that comprise the "ass".

Anyway, I dunno how you guys play, but I switch between 1st person, 3rd and diablo view all the time, always twirling the camera all over the place to suit the situation. Rarely do I see the backend of my character... have 3 characters now, all male.

It'd be weird to play as a chick. It's almost like an online persona, just wouldn't be right. They are very pretty to look at thou, heh... I think the designers went too far
